Join us as an LGIU Australia Associate

We’re looking for people with fresh, informed perspectives on local government.

Do you have a solid understanding of the issues facing elected and appointed officials in local government?

Are you able to unpack key ideas and practice as they related to local government?

Do you want to reach 1000s of elected officials and practitioners at councils across Australia, Ireland, Scotland and England?

Areas of expertise we are looking for include:

  • local government finance
  • climate change
  • waste management
  • transport
  • asset management
  • social planning and community service
  • innovation
  • cyber security

We’re interested in hearing from great writers with expertise and focus across local government in Australia. You can find some examples of what we do and what we’re looking for below.

We’re also looking for people who’d like to write about cross country comparison and international examples. If you have some experience of Australian, New Zealand or North American local government ideally alongside familiarity with Irish or UK local government, we’d love to hear from you. You can be based anywhere.

How it works:

Apply via the online form below or email [email protected] Tell us about your background, why you’d like to work with us and, if you can, drop us a sample of your professional writing as a file or a link. If your experience and writing style meets our needs, we’ll be in touch to arrange a chat. We run a rolling recruitment programme – LGIU publishes over 400 pieces per year that require input from one of our associates.

LGIU Australia is looking for associates with Australian local government experience, however people with experience of local government elsewhere in the world are welcome to apply.

We do pay a standard briefing rate for each commission, will be discussed and briefed in advance. Most commissions are around a day of work, but we can discuss more complex briefings and opportunities of briefing series.

Or share content:

Do you have an idea or an article you think LGIU Australia might be interested in? We’d love to hear about it. Find out more about how you can share your story.
