In partnership with Mears this LGiU project investigated how social landlords engage with their tenants. Recent changes to the welfare system are having a massive impact on the relationship between residents, local authorities, and housing associations. In addition to this there are significant long-term problems, including a rapidly ageing population and climate change, which cannot be solved by governments and individuals alone. Landlords will need to adapt and look for innovative ways to work with their tenants if they are to contain the fall out from these changes.
The final report of the project, ‘Strong Foundations’, was launched in November 2013. It makes four broad practical recommendations that social landlords should consider in shaping more proactive conversations with their tenants.
