Welcome new councillors

Is your council a member?

If your council is already a member of LGiU (you can check here), then you get access to our popular Daily News service which brings all the local government headlines straight to your in-box first thing every morning. You also have access to a whole range of policy briefings telling you what you need to know about everything from adult social care to housing and planning to highways and cultural services.  You can pick and choose which topics you want right away and which you can find in our regular digest LGiU This Week.

If your council is a member, sign up for Daily News and more here.

We have great resources, too for brand new councillors such as our round-up of advice and support and our overview of the issues new councillors need to get to grips with fast.

And while being a councillor can be tremendously rewarding, there are also a few things to be aware of.  We’ve just issued our updated guidance on personal safety for councillors.

Welcome new councillors

Member or not – we still have loads of help and information

Even if your council isn’t a member, signing up to our regular updates means you can get notified when we share a wide range of information and experience through our blog and on our podcast LGiU Fortnightly. It’s available on your favourite podcast app – check out our latest episode featuring an interview with a first-time, newly-elected councillor.  Most of our reports and other publications are also available to anyone to download or read.

We also have a huge range training, learning and development options  to help councillors develop their skills and awareness which are available to all and delegates from member councils receive a discount.
