Volunteers’ Week is a UK wide celebration running from the 1 – 7 June, it’s a time to say thank you for the massive contribution volunteers make every day. During the week there will be hundreds of events and celebrations taking place across the UK and we want you to get involved.
Volunteering links people to their local communities. NCVO’s recent survey of 10,000 people across Britain, Time Well Spent, on the volunteering experience found that 8 out of 10 volunteers give time in their local areas. In 2017/18, 20.1 million people in the UK volunteered formally at least once a year and one in five (11.9 million) people did so at least once a month.
We found that volunteering is a great method for reducing loneliness and isolation, especially in young people. The UK has a strong and healthy civil society which is the envy of many nations so why not take this time to celebrate those who give up their spare time to better their communities.
This year our theme is, time to celebrate, and we really want to thank the unsung heroes in our local communities.
Volunteers’ Week is not only a great opportunity to see what people in your local communities are doing, but also a chance for people to find new opportunities they might be interested in. If you’re a new councillor this is a great opportunity to get to grips with some of the great work volunteers do to support local services.
