LocalGovCamp – The annual un-conference takes place this Saturday in Birmingham. LGiU is sponsoring the event and we’ll be running a mixture of interactive sessions and ‘pop-up style’ fringe debates. More information about the day can be found here.
Interesting events – On Tuesday, Centre for Cities and the Institute for Government will launch a joint report on the relationship between elected mayors and their city economies.
On Wednesday, Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, Shadow Communities Secretary Caroline Flint and Communities and Local Government select committee chair Clive Betts MP will be at the Reform policy conference – Localism and the public services revolution.
Last week, Mr Betts released his committee’s report into Localism. It said there are “Good intentions and encouraging rhetoric on the one hand, but worrying signs, on the other, that implementation will be patchy, and the thinking behind the policy muddled”.
Also on Wednesday, MPs Julian Huppert, Kris Hopkins and Tom Harris will speak at the Hansard Society’s Democracy Forum – the Digital Agenda for Change – where are we one year on? Rob will be attending and so look out for a blog later in the week.
LGiU briefings – We will be publishing the following policy briefings to LGiU members
· CLG select committee on localism
· The environment white paper
· Elected mayors
· Culture and sport catch up
· Audit Commission: value for money in social care
· NHS Future Forum report on health reforms consultation
