Who can use the LGIU website?

Anyone may visit and browse the LGIU website, and some content is available without creating a website account. However, certain areas of the website and some content are only accessible to registered users with a website account. To access this material, you must create an account and register with us.

Registration

There is no charge to create an account on the LGIU website. We offer two types of accounts: member and non-member accounts.

Member account. If you are an employee or a councillor of an organisation that holds an LGIU membership, you may register for a member account. A member account provides access to all content available on the LGIU website. There is no limit to the number of individual accounts that can be created as part of an organisational membership.

Non-member account. If you are not affiliated with an organisation that holds an LGIU membership, you may register for a non-member account. This type of account allows the user to sign-in to the website and view some restricted content, such as selected publications, but it does not provide access to member-exclusive content.

Account security

Creating an account on the LGIU website is free and straightforward. Regardless of the type of account you hold, you must keep your login details, including your password, secure and confidential. You must not share your login details with anyone.

Anyone who wishes to access content on the LGIU website must create their own individual account.

Accounts, access, and termination

If you have a member account and the organisation through which you receive LGIU membership ceases to be an LGIU member, your account will automatically be converted to a non-member account. You will no longer have access to member-only content.

If you hold a member account and leave the organisation through which you receive LGIU membership, you must inform LGIU. Your account will then be converted to a non-member account.

LGIU reserves the right to modify account access levels, suspend, or terminate any website account at its discretion. Where reasonably possible, we will provide notice to the account holder in advance.

Personal information

Using content that appears on the LGIU site

Unless otherwise stated, all content on the LGIU website is owned by LGIU.

Content designated for members may only be accessed and used by employees or councillors of organisations that hold an active LGIU membership. There is no limit to the number of employees or councillors from a member organisation who may register on the website and access member content.
Users from member organisations may share LGIU content within their own organisation and use it in internal documents, provided that LGIU is cited as the source.

Member-only content must not be shared with individuals or organisations that do not hold an LGIU membership.

Individuals with a non-member account, or those accessing publicly available content without an account, may use such content for personal, non-commercial purposes, provided that LGIU and the author (where identified) are credited as the source.

Unless expressly permitted by LGIU, website content may not be reproduced, modified, republished, sold, or distributed for commercial purposes.
