With a bit of luck, people will take this week’s scary headlines about social networking sites with a pinch of salt. They certainly did little to deter the group of 37 experts representing 30 local authorities that make up the LGiU Action Learning Set on Youth Participation and Social Networking Sites.
On Wednesday and Thursday we held the Action Learning Set at Horsley Park, a beautiful 15th Century building recently transformed into a residential conference centre. There was not much time to enjoy the surroundings – although they must have contributed to the group’s productivity, as we have just launched five SNS and youth participation groups with five pilots. Each is geared to harnessing SNS for the purposes of local democracy and enabling young people to take part in the running of their councils and services.
