This timeline of the LGR process is based on the most recent MHCLG announcements.
Note – on the 7th September 2026, the government announced a withdrawal of some LGR decisions and a review of most others, meaning that the timetable below will be significantly altered. The government has announced that local elections will go ahead in May 2027 on the current boundaries.
The timeline below is based on decisions before the most recent delay. When there is new information, we will update the timeline again.
