LGiU Statement: The Nation’s ‘Other Election’
Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive, LGiU said:
“The General Election isn’t the only vote on May 7th. Residents of 279 English councils will also decide who runs their local services.
At the LGiU, we know what is at stake. Will our elderly relatives be properly cared for? Will our children have jobs and the skills to do them? Will they have homes to live in? Will our high streets prosper and will our neighbourhoods be clean and safe? Our responses to all these challenges are driven in the first instance by the thousands of councillors who are standing for election on May 7th, not by the few hundred members of Parliament.
Our profiles showcase the breadth and diversity of those Councils and Councillors who are tackling these challenges head on. It will be down to the voters to decide on the day if they have done enough.”
