Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive, LGIU said:
“As polls close in these local elections, tribute must be paid to the thousands of council employees and volunteers who made today happen and will be working tirelessly through the night and days to follow to ensure each and every vote is counted.
And while many will naturally be looking forward to seeing what the results of these elections tell us about national politics. We should remember, however, that the real outcome of these polls is the election of the councillors who will shape local services and provide local leadership over the next four years as we try and recover from the pandemic. Wherever they are and whatever party they represent, they have quite a job ahead of them and we should all be rooting for them.”
