LGiU launches C’llr Awards 2018

Nominations now open to showcase the best of local government

Today, the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) and CCLA announce the return of the annual C’llr Achievement Awards, back again for a ninth year.

The C’llr Awards are the only national awards ceremony to celebrate the important work of councillors across England. Award categories for 2018 include Community Champion, Finance and Transformation, and Health and Care alongside the coveted Leader of the Year and Young Councillor of the Year awards.

This year’s ceremony will take place on Tuesday 6th November (6.00-9.00pm) against the backdrop of the Guildhall’s Livery Hall.  The C’llr Awards brings together over 200 councillors from across the UK to celebrate their achievements, showcase the unsung heroes of local government and network with others across the sector.

Nominations are now officially open until Friday 14th September with the shortlist due to be unveiled in October. Nominations can be made by any member of the public and are open to all who would like to recognise any councillor in their area doing fantastic work for their community. The winners will be decided by a panel of judges and announced on the night.

This year’s awards are possible thanks to the generous support of founding sponsors CCLA.

Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive of LGiU, said: “Today, we are proud to be opening nominations for the ninth annual C’llr Achievement Awards.

So much of what impacts our everyday lives comes from the leadership and dedication of our locally elected leaders. Their work so often goes unrecognised and that is why we are calling on all members of the public to come together to nominate those making a real difference in their communities. We are looking for the councillors who go above and beyond each and everyday to make their communities better, safer and happier places for us all to live.

We look forward to receiving a record number of nominations again this year and continuing to showcase the important work of our councillors across England.”
