Open local data

Bookmark

Last night I attended a seminar at the UCL’s Constitution Unit which featured a presentation from Chris Taggart – developer of OpenlyLocal.com –  on open local data. Rather than write up a whole post, I thought I’d try just sharing my notes – which are in a Google Doc here. Chris’ slides are here.

For those short of time – they key issues were –

– our lives are becoming data – therefore access to this is crucial to making better decisions

– open data reduces barriers to understanding and increases involvement

– things are increasingly working either on a very large, global scale or a very (hyper) local one. LGiU is currently writing a report on this theme called Connected Localism.

LGiU director Jonathan Carr-West will be speaking alongside Chris at the news:rewired event this Friday.
