The slow iteration of improvements in local spending reports continues. As part of the Sustainable Communities Act the government was required to provide a breakdown of all public spending in each local authority area. Now, three years on, we have an interactive website to play with. The problem still remains – where is all the local spending information?
Local spending reports were created on a simple principle – to be able to see how effectively public money is being spent in local areas we need to able to see spend from all public bodies. Not just local bodies but all government departments, agencies, QUANGOs that are investing in communities. Unfortunetely this information is still not available.
The government’s coalition programme shows signs of moving another step closer, with delivering the Sustainable Communities Act making it into the list of priorities. Fingers crossed the next iteration lives up to the promise.
