Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) Timeline

This timeline of the LGR process is based on the most recent MHCLG announcements and will be updated regularly. The timeline was updated on 4 December 2o25 to reflect the delay in inaugural mayoral elections announced by the government. However, there is every chance that timings may change again.

Currently, there are still a few areas of ambiguity, and where possible we have tried to show the range of different dates outlined as they relate to key MHCLG announcements.
