Local elections 2011- through the eyes of a returning officer

Bookmark

Here’s an interesting insight in to what a local government election feels like to a Chief Exec going about their role as Returning Officer.

Reading through Jan Britton’s account, what jumps out is the huge amount of organisation and training of staff required just to get things running.  It’s also interesting to note the vast number of buildings being used and the fact that the process started way back on 28 April when the postal votes started arriving.

It all  goes to show just how much effort and energy all goes in to these local elections.

Thanks to all who have sent in information and insight in to what’s going on around the country. We’re going to be following all the rumours and results as they come in throughout the night – and we’ll be paying special attention to events in those ‘50 councils to watch‘ that Andy Sawford identified last night.
