The BNP’s march to greater political power has, at times, taken on an air of inevitability. But now they seem to be in retreat. Last night party leader Nick Griffin slumped to third place in Barking and Dagenham. His local lieutenants are faring little better. The BNP councillor in Leeds has lost his seat and now Richard Barnbrook, the BNP GLA member, has lost seat on Barking & Dagenham council. The local Labour party are rumoured to be predicting a landslide. This may be a vindication of Labour’s decision never to share a platform with the BNP – a stance I personally disagree with.
