LGIU Scotland & CCLA Cllr Awards 2020
About the Awards
Now more than ever we need to honour the unsung heroes of local government who have Scotland afloat during the pandemic. There are over 1,200 councillors across Scotland, working to represent and support their communities. At LGiU Scotland, we want to recognise and reward those councillors who go the extra mile for their constituents, so in 2018 with sponsorship from CCLA, investors for local authorities, we launched the first Scottish Cllr Awards. Following the success of the first awards, we are now holding them for the third year running.
Due to the ongoing health crisis, this year’s awards will be held virtually. The virtual ceremony will take place in late autumn and winners will be announced on the night.
Keep an eye out for more information about how to access the live stream.
There are 10 categories for the LGIU Scotland & CCLA Cllr Awards 2020, including two new categories for collaborative working and community leadership during the coronavirus health crisis. Please note you can enter the same councillor into as many categories as you like (as long as they meet the criteria for that award), but you can only nominate the same councillor once per category.
- Rural Community Champion
- Urban Community Champion
- Champion for Education
- Environmental Impact
- Innovation and Digital
- Leader of the Year
- Lifetime Contribution
- New Councillor of the Year
- Covid-19 Hero
- Collaborative Working
Please note the categories are flexible and depend on the number of nominations received.
This year’s awards are only possible thanks to the generous support of our founding partners CCLA, who are working with us for the 3rd year in a row.
The winner in each category will be chosen by our esteemed judging panel, comprised of senior councillors and officers as well as external stakeholders. Winners will be announced at the virtual awards ceremony in November.
