A toolkit for RCV lead contacts

What is LGIU Australia?

LGIU Australia is a collaboration between LGIU – a not-for-profit, non-partisan local government membership organisation and Australia-based B Corp SGS Economics & Planning.  We provide practical, up-to-the-minute intelligence on policy issues pertinent to local government in Australia.

Why is my council receiving member-only access to LGIU Australia?

Working in partnership with Rural Councils Victoria, LGIU Australia is giving access to all RCV members until 31 August. This partnership means that all staff and councillors at RCV councils can get to know LGIU Australia’s extensive range of local government resources and support for themselves.

How can I access LGIU Australia?

LGIU Australia content is available to everybody at RCV member councils and can be accessed via email and on our website by just signing up.

What do I get from LGIU Australia?

LGIU Australia member resources include:

  • Daily News bulletins summarising the key issues and top local government news stories across Australia;
  • Weekly policy briefings written by sector experts on the latest developments, challenges and opportunities in Australian local government;
  • Events including Global Local Executive Panels and Ask The Expert sessions, connecting colleagues across Australia, the UK and Ireland to share learning and experience;
  • The Global Local Newsletter focuses on a different theme each week and rounds up the best ideas, insights and practice from local government internationally;
  • Full access to an extensive online catalogue of Australian, UK and international local government content;
  • Solutions-focused sector-leading research in partnership with universities and sector practitioners to explore key challenges facing local government around the world.

What can I do as an LGIU lead contact?

We work closely with a nominated contact at each RCV council to make sure that access to LGIU Australia resources is promoted across the council and used as widely as possible.

  1. Promote sign-up to LGIU Australia across your council. There is no limit to the number of councillors and staff who can access LGIU Australia resources and your role is about sharing key tips on LGIU access through staff newsletters, intranets and team meetings. Download promotional text. Contact [email protected] for more on this.
  2. Nominate staff members from communications and planning. LGIU access is spread across councils and for LGIU Australia’s membership team to ensure you receive the full suite of resources, CC or forward this to a colleague in communications and planning.
  3. Help us showcase your council’s achievements across our international network. LGIU regularly profiles councils through our articles, interviews and case studies. If you have an interesting project to share, please email [email protected] with a 400-500 word summary.
  4. Invite LGIU insights to your team meetings. Our membership team can run “how to” sessions that will help you and your colleagues make the most of LGIU Australia resources in your day-to-day work.
  5. Get in touch! Our work reflects our members’ priorities. If you have a subject that you would like us to cover, please email [email protected] or [email protected] to arrange a short Teams chat.

What happens at the end of the trial?

At the end of August, LGIU’s membership team will contact all the RCV councils taking part in the free access trial to discuss how the service was used and explore options for continuing access across as many councils as possible.
