In December, we published the Key to Care: the Burstow Commission on the Future of the Home Care Workforce chaired by Paul Burstow and supported by Mears which highlighted issues of living wage and minimum wage compliance. Among a range of other issues, the report outlined how care workers receive short wages and the Commission called for changes to the way HMRC handles minimum wage compliance complaints.
This morning the BBC Radio 4 covered the story of Deb Claridge – a care worker who has been struggling to have her claim resolved which you can listen to here. And The Guardian also today published the story of a care worker who outlines how she’s paid for only part of the time she’s working in the community.
