Social Care Funding Post Dilnot
Following LGiU’s work with Partnership Insurance on the plight of self-funders we will be hosting fringes looking at the future of care funding in the wake of the publication of the Dilnot Commission’s report. We will be hosting Care Services Minister Paul Burstow, Chris Horlick from Partnership Insurance, Cllr Liz Green, Deputy Leader of Kingston upon Thames, Michelle Mitchell from Age UK, Chair of the Health Select Committee, Stephen Dorrell MP, and Cllr Colin Barrow, Leader of Westminster City Council.

Free Schools and Academies
The LGiU has also teamed up with the NUT and UNISON to take a look at the role of local authorities in education with the rise of free schools and academies. The three organisations will be showcasing new research which shows the impact of the changes across the country. Speakers at the three events include Schools Minister Nick Hurd MP, David Laws MP, Shadow Education Secretary, Andy Burnham MP, Christine Blower, General Secretary of the NUT, John Richards, Acting National Secretary for Education and Children’s Services at UNISON, Cllr Peter John, Leader of LB Southwark, Cllr Colin Barrow, leader of Westminster City Council, and Cllr Peter Downes from Cambridgeshire County Council.
