The Rural Workforce


The second meeting of the Cross Party Group in the Scottish Parliament on Rural Policy 2017-18 will be held onTuesday 5 December, and will focus on ‘the rural workforce’.

The meeting will feature a diverse group of speakers, including SRUC researchers reporting interim findings from the Scottish Government-funded project on seasonal workers in Scottish agriculture, followed by an open discussion.

  • Steven Thomson and Rob McMorran (SRUC): Seasonal migrant workers in Scottish agriculture
  • Rebecca Kay (University of Glasgow): Supporting language learning and combating social isolation amongst migrants in rural communities
  • Caroline Gregory (The Lovat Hotel, Loch Ness): Insights from the tourism sector in rural Scotland
  • Piotr Gudan (Outdoor Explore): A small rural, tourism-orientated business and its collaborative partnerships
