Roundtable Event: Joined-up flooding strategies for a resilient future

Date: Monday 20th June

Time: 10:00 – 12:00

Location: King’s Centre, Osney Mead, Oxford, OX2 0ES

Please note this is a free event

The Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) is hosting a roundtable forum on flooding on Monday 20th June. It will be an opportunity for LGiU member councils from Oxfordshire and the surrounding area, and other key organisations and agencies, to discuss the longer-term resilience challenges caused by flood risk.

Flooding cannot be dealt with by individual departments or organisations – it demands a collaborative approach and a long-view. Everyone from housing officers to planners, emergency services to environmental services, businesses to national agencies, has a story to tell on flooding.

This event will be an opportunity for a broad range of stakeholders to take a step back from day-to-day planning to discuss a longterm strategy for this policy area. Organisations that perhaps don’t work together regularly, or only come together to address short-term issues, will be able to share experiences and ideas for a resilient future.

Topics to discuss:

  • What has been the impact of recent changes to national planning regulations?
  • How can we engage citizens with tackling flood risk? How can we promote awareness and positive behaviour change?
  • What infrastructure improvements do we need to enable us to manage flood risk? Emergency response planning, flood defences, building and landscape design, etc.
  • How can our approach to mitigating longterm climate change contribute to the flooding agenda?

Policy Network events are an LGiU member benefit so we will prioritise our members. However, if you would like to attend this invitation-only event, please contact Jennifer Glover.

Who should attend?
Members interested in flooding policy within their council, including departments such as emergency services, planning, housing and environment. Other agencies with an involvement with flooding, either within Oxfordshire region, or beyond.
