Network on the Future of Local Democracy – Meeting 4: Leadership

Bookmark

How can local government make the most of the current situation and build a collective case for meaningful change in how England is governed? LGiU is working with the James Madison Charitable Trust to establish a high level Network made up of local government leaders and chief executives to answer some of the biggest questions we face in 2017 and beyond.

This event will be an opportunity to discuss the best forms of leadership in the context of a more devolved settlement.

  • Bearing in mind our previous discussions, what forms of leadership are needed to address these challenges?
  • Do we need new forms of leadership at a regional or combined authority level?
  • What is the role of regional leadership?
  • Do metro mayors work?
  • Can they work outside an urban setting?
  • What alternative models of leadership are available to us at this level?

Andrew Lightfoot, Head of Policy Reform at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, will give an introductory presentation and Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive of LGiU will chair the discussion.

This event is free, but invitation only and is open to leaders and chief executives of LGiU member councils. Please do get in touch if you would like to take part. Not sure whether you’re organisation is a member?
