Core Cities UK, London Councils and the Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) are inviting Core City Treasurers and their counterparts in other types of local authority to a round table discussion event in London on council finances.
Taking place ahead of the spending review and chaired by Local Government Information Unit Chief Executive Dr Jonathan Carr West, the round table will form part of LGIU’s Local Finance Task Force. It promises to be a wide-ranging discussion about how we can reform a flawed funding model and make the case for investment in the vital services provided by local Government ahead of the Spending Review and the Spring Statement.
The event will be a chance to hear directly from LGIU about the findings of its Local Finance Task Force and the work it is doing around sustainability of council finances. There will also be the opportunity for Treasurers to give their views on the options presented on our Local Finance Scorecard.
In turn, Core Cities UK Treasurers’ Group will summarise the group’s latest thoughts on how we can create a fairer funding model that is fit for purpose. You can read their mini-manifesto on local government finance on their website.
The round table will be held between 2pm and 4pm at London Councils, 59 ½ Southwark Street, SE1 0AL.
You can find a write-up of our first Round Table, held in Nottingham here.
This event is for Chief Finance Officers/Treasurers only. Please RSVP to w.mapplebeck@corecities.com by December 19th confirming your attendance and letting him know whether you have any access requirements.
A briefing note will be circulated in advance to all those planning to attend.
