About the event

Devolving more power to local communities is a hot topic. Effective councils will have many mechanisms set up to inform, consult and involve local people in the business of the council. But empowering residents in ways that enables them to transform their lives and their communities means developing new approaches for enabling resident-led solutions.

The results can be as diverse as championing community-based health initiatives that residents are pioneering in your area, to supporting a community group’s application to establish a Community Land Trust.

This roundtable is an opportunity for forward-thinking councillors, who are looking for innovative new ways to support their residents, to share their experiences and find inspiration.

We will be asking:

  • How can councillors forge new and positive relationships with projects led by residents and community groups?
  • What types of collaboration strategies are the most effective? And what are the main barriers to successful partnerships?
  • How can councillors build community capacity and use their role to allow the council to make better use of community assets?
  • How can councillors work with the community on solutions to the big challenges facing local government?

It will be a chance for elected members to share their thoughts and hear from others in similar roles in different authorities.
