This LGIU service, produced by our partners at Early Morning Media, summarises the news stories reported each day that are of interest to local government across the recipient’s nation. These summaries are not presented as established fact, nor do the opinions and views expressed reflect those of LGIU or Early Morning Media. 

Stories are selected from national and regional press for inclusion based on factors such as relevance, public interest, timeliness, and how widely they are reported. We operate independently of political or external influence, and our coverage is not designed to promote any party, campaign, or viewpoint.

 We aim to reflect a spread of reputable publications to provide a well-rounded perspective where it exists, and avoid partisan framing or inflammatory language, regardless of how strongly a story may be presented elsewhere. Our coverage prioritises confirmed facts and verified information over opinion, speculation, or individual commentary.

Daily News covers a full spectrum of publications and political views to ensure our members receive a complete picture of the topics and conversations in the news that day. As a non-partisan membership organisation for local government, LGIU firmly believes that our comprehensive news summary service should reflect the full diversity of local politics to be most useful, fair and informative.

We select stories from both online and print sources; therefore, we cannot always provide a direct link, but we always name the origin of the source. For our Daily News Ireland service, we comply with copyright restrictions and only send linked sources to councils with a Newspaper Licensing Ireland licence.

We do not avoid controversial topics, particularly where they are significant, but aim to summarise them in a neutral and proportionate way. We also apply sensible thresholds (e.g. prominence or impact) to determine inclusion. Stories concerning individual councils are included where they are widely reported or where the issues (e.g. planning, finance, governance) have broader relevance to other councils and councillors.
