The introduction of Universal Credit (UC) will alter not only the structure of benefits but also methods of payment and claim management. Transition to the new system will alter the type of required support services for claimants and the DWP intends working with local authorities to help provide targeted local support.
This document from the DWP sets out a proposed Local Support Services Framework, covering the type of support that DWP would be willing to fund, how current partnerships work, and how a partnership approach might work in the future. Its preparation involved the participation of the DWP and the three representative local government associations in Britain. It will be of interest to councillors in all councils and to officers dealing with welfare reform and benefits.
