The Work Programme: latest assessments

The Work Programme (WP) began operating in June 2011 to help long-term unemployed people get and keep jobs. On 6 November, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) published a short report on Work Programme’s performance. The PAC’s inquiry drew largely on a report published by the National Audit Office (NAO) in July 2014, which reviewed the Work Programme’s performance to March 2014. This briefing summarises the PAC and NAO reports and provides a brief overview of the most recent DWP statistical release on the WP. This briefing anticipates an interim evaluation conducted by the independent consortium due to be published shortly.

This briefing will be of interest to councillors and officers in all types of authority with an interest in welfare, poverty reduction, and employment support.
