On 26 June, the Government announced its second Spending Review, setting out the limits to departmental expenditure for 2015-16 and its intentions to 2017-18. As expected, the Spending Review indicates further cuts to public spending well into the next Parliament, deepening further the cuts that were announced in 2010.

Within the public sector, local government will be the hardest hit in terms of reductions to resource spending.

This briefing provides some further detail to the information given in an earlier “on the day” LGiU briefing. It is supplemented by material gathered from the document: Investing in Britain’s Future (available here) released the day after the Spending Review
