Reform of Alternative Provision – consultation

Bookmark

Summary

The DfE has published for consultation (until 15 May) its proposals for the reform of Alternative Provision (AP), and associated guidance. This follows the recent report of Charlie Taylor’s review of AP, all the recommendations of which were accepted by the Secretary of State.

The reforms are intended to bring significant changes to AP; they will see local authorities’ role as direct providers greatly diminish as the majority of Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) become AP Academies over the next few years, and other providers establish AP Free Schools – though LAs will retain a major role as commissioners of provision (although not all provision).
