Ofsted inspection of schools – NAO

Summary

The National Audit Office (NAO) has reported on Ofsted inspection of schools finding that ‘Ofsted cannot demonstrate that its inspection of schools represents value for money’. Recommendations cover: public reporting on how well Ofsted is meeting its targets; better parental engagement; and recruitment and retention of inspectors. DfE is recommended to work with Ofsted to set out clearly and communicate the different roles of those involved in overseeing schools and should differentiate the roles of Ofsted and the regional schools commissioners.
