Off-rolling pupils – EPI research and the local authority response

Summary

The unexplained disappearance (off-rolling) of approximately 50,000 a pupils from years 10 and 11 is a significant issue given that such children are known to have reduced life chances. This briefing looks at the methodology of the Education Policy Institute in calculating the number of off-rolled pupils. The local authority response is considered.
