NHS Health Checks – the controversy over individual and population-level interventions



The NHS Health Check programme, a mandatory service which local authorities are required to commission, has been criticised for not being evidence-based, ineffective, costly, potentially increasing health inequalities and being a waste of providers’ and GPs’ time. What is the case for and against, and can it be better targeted?
