Summary
Hitherto, the introduction of Universal Credit has not affected the eligibility of Free School Meals, and other child related benefits such as access to childcare benefits. The Government will integrate these benefits into Universal Credit over the period up to 2022. The Government’s plans for Free School Meals has become a heavily contested issue in recent months and this briefing attempts to shed light on the debate.
