Summary
The Government’s long-awaited Post-16 Skills Plan was published in July. A radical overhaul of post-16 vocational or technical education is proposed. Students will be offered two choices for post-16 education, an academic or a technical route. The technical route will be further broken down into two “modes of learning”: employment-based (typically an apprenticeship) or college-based. A framework of 15 routes will be designed, replacing the 20,000 different courses that currently exist, and occupations will be grouped together under the 15 headings.
