The Government has published its approach to achieving a more integrated society and enabling everyone to live and work successfully alongside each other. Consistent with localist and big society agendas, Government action focuses on creating the conditions for integration, aiming to inspire and enable community action in which civil society and local areas take the practical lead.

This briefing summarises and comments on the fundamental change it represents and the implications for local councils. It will be of particular interest to ward members, corporate policy officers and those leading on community development and cohesion, equalities and diversity, as well as local strategic partnerships.
