Summary
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is completing the final consultation on a new set of national Sustainable Development Indicators (SDI’s). The consultation ends on 15 October and can be returned via an online survey: http://sd.defra.gov.uk/new-sd-indicators/
* The new set of indicators has been streamlined, with 68 being reduced to 37: 12 headline indicators plus 25 supplementary ones. New measures are introduced and others discarded. Opinions are sought on the selection of headline indicators, gaps in the indicator set and if certain themes should be highlighted in future. These opinions help to shape the official government recording of what we mean by sustainability in the coming years.
* The indicators cover a broad range of issues relevant to local government policy, including housing, transport, energy and planning, and is therefore useful for all officers and members working in policy, strategy and community engagement.
