LGIU is off to Canberra!

LGIU Chief Executive Jonathan Carr-West will be speaking at the National General Assembly of Local Government in Canberra (13-16 June) in a panel session about the future of local government – what our councils will look like in the future – alongside Tahlia Azaria, Director of Young Mayors Program at Foundation for Young Australians.

Speaking on Wednesday 14th June at 1:30pm, he’ll be sharing highlights of our latest international research on local government finance and discussing the financial challenges for local government. What we can learn about finance from other places, how finance structures shape behaviours and outcomes, and impact. And how all this impacts the economic, social and environmental factors we need in place for local government to support flourishing communities.

And if a talk on local government finance sounds like a snooze fest to you, trust us, Jonathan will change your mind. It’s not all spreadsheets and rates, it’s about the real bottom line for the places where we live and the communities that we love.

Our colleague Thomas Lynch will also be at our exhibition, booth number 73, stand with our partners SGS Economics & Planning with some very special offers on LGIU membership. They would love to hear more about what you think the future of local government looks like, what the challenges are in your area and how we can help share expert knowledge and good practice from all over Australia and learning from local governments around the world.

And you can pick up a copy of the first-ever, printed edition of our Global Local magazine. Get a sneak peak below.
